Tribal wooden mask from Tanzania, hand-carved, notable for its combination of black and white colors. It is characterized by a headdress adorned with three hornbill birds, a wide and prominent forehead with scarifications, thick eyebrows that extend into a long nose, closed eyes covered with kaolin, a small mouth with well-defined lips, and the edge of the mask carved in a zigzag pattern.</p>
<p>When a person wears an African mask, they assume the entity represented by the mask, transforming into the spirit evoked by it, which then resides within the person&#8217;s body.</p>

Se caracteriza por un tocado adornado con tres pájaros calaos, una frente ancha y prominente con escarificaciones, cejas gruesas que continúan en una larga nariz, ojos cerrados cubiertos con caolín, una boca pequeña con labios bien definidos y el borde de la máscara tallado en forma de zigzag.</p>
<p>Cuando una persona usa una máscara africana, asume la entidad que representa la máscara, transformándose en el espíritu evocado por la misma, el cual se instala dentro del cuerpo de la persona.</p>

This tribal mask of the Makonde ethnic group from Tanzania is hand-carved from ebony wood in an oval shape that highlights the cheerful features of the face, with a slightly protruding chin, large mouth showing white teeth, and delicate tattoo that runs along the back of the mask.</p>
<p>The Makonde ethnic group is located in southern Tanzania and northern Mozambique, occupying both banks of the Rovuma River.</p>
<p>For centuries, they have kept their distance from contact with Europeans, and their traditional occupations include agriculture, fishing, and hunting.</p>
<p>Villages are autonomous, and within them is the &#8220;mapiko,&#8221; which is the house of the sacred mask and the epicenter of their ritual life.</p>

<p>La etnia Makonde se encuentra en el sur de Tanzania y en el norte de Mozambique, ocupando ambas orillas del río Rovuma.</p>
<p>Durante siglos, han mantenido su distancia del contacto con los europeos, y sus ocupaciones tradicionales incluyen la agricultura, la pesca y la caza.</p>

Additionally, it features a large, asymmetrically open mouth and the sculpted figure of two elephants with intertwined trunks on the forehead.</p>
<p>A source of pride for Tanzanians, Tanzania has more than 120 different ethnic groups, each with its own culture and traditions.</p>
